Mission Australia’s Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program is for grandparents who have custody or fulltime care of their grandchildren. The program helps grandparents revive their parenting skills, and improve their confidence and self-esteem, while developing a support network with others in a similar situation.
Mission Australia provides a range of support including:
- Advocacy, counselling and case management
- Information on financial help that is available for grandparents caring for their grandchildren
- Information and links to other services that may assist grandparents and their families
- Weekly support groups and coffee mornings
- Educational workshops and groups that assist grandparents deal with the complexities of parenting the second time around
- Practical solutions to the complex needs of adjusting to the different stages of raising grandchildren
- A large range of social and school holiday activities
- Mentoring and homework club for grandchildren
