"We stood in the driveway with nowhere to go." - James

James* and Naomi* stood outside their old house with their baby and two young daughters. They had nowhere to go – except their car.

This young family was forced into homelessness by a redundancy and Perth’s brutal rental market. James remembers his shock as he put down the car seats to make space for their kids to sleep.

“I thought ‘is this actually happening, or will I wake up from this nightmare?’”

James’ family is one of hundreds across the Perth suburb of Maddington who rely on the support of Mission Australia’s Wattle House.

For 15 years, Wattle House has helped people like James and Naomi put food on the table, keep a roof over their heads, and find a pathway out of crisis.

Today, unexpected funding losses mean we can’t keep up with the growing need.

You can help change that.

Wattle House is calling on your help to raise $100,000 this year, so we can continue the crisis relief that our community depends on. Please donate by Christmas day.

Deidre* spent years caring for her husband. When he passed away, she found herself alone and struggling to survive.

Her pension barely covered her rent, and she often had to skip meals to get by. When deidre's rental was sold, things went from bad to worse.

"Everywhere was so expensive. I thought I'd be out on the street," Deidre told us.

She's not alone. Maddington is one of the most disadvantaged suburbs in Australia, and people here have been hit hard by the cost-of-living crisis.

Every week, more people like Deidre arrive at Wattle House in need of help and hope. You can make sure they don't lose this vital safety net.

“I said ‘I don’t have any money. I need to eat.’” – Deidre

Will you donate so Wattle House can keep supporting people like Deidre?

You can bring help, hope and possibility to people in crisis.

Thanks to the kindness of the Mission Australia community, Wattle House could be there for James, Naomi and Deirdre.

James and Naomi’s family are now staying at a friend’s place and we’re helping them out with groceries, clothes for the kids, and support to get public housing.

Gifts from people like you meant we could also support Deirdre to pay her rent, buy food, and find an affordable flat that she won’t be evicted from.

But Wattle House can’t keep this life-changing crisis relief going without you.

Please help us raise $100,000 this Christmas, so people like James, Naomi, and Deidre don’t lose the support they need to survive.
